The Program Administrator would like to inform all system owners and aggregators of an upcoming deadline to receive payment for certificates associated with June 2020 to May 2021 solar generation (Energy Year 2021).

The Program Administrator will continue to accept EY21 TREC-eligible certificates through August 2022, but these must be received in the Solar Incentives NJ Program GATS account with a registered payment application at https://solarincentivesnj.com/ by the deadline, September 1, 2022.

Per Section 14:8-10.6 – Mechanism for creation of TRECs (d) of the final Board Order establishing the Transition Renewable Energy Certificate (TREC) program, “A TREC may be redeemed in GATS in the energy year in which the electricity was produced or in the following energy year.

The Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) must report all Energy Year 2021 (EY21) certificates being retired for Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) Compliance purposes to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) by October 15, 2022.  Therefore, TREC-eligible system owners are required to have all solar production from June 2020 to May 2021 processed in the PJM Generation Attribute Tracking System (GATS) by September 1, 2022.

Energy Year 2021 certificates not invoiced to the EDCs by September 1, 2022, will lose their TREC eligibility and instead be categorized as a New Jersey Class I REC.  Expired EY21 certificates received after that date will be returned to the system owner in GATS.

If you have any questions regarding Energy Year 2021 TREC-eligible certificates, please contact the Program Administrator by phone at (877) 754-3149 or via email at [email protected].
